MOBILE, Ala. (November 3, 2007) --
Ideal running conditions on a perfect autumn day greeted over 5,000
runners who participated in the 20th anniversary Food World Senior Bowl
Charity Run held in downtown Mobile Saturday morning.
The race’s 10K, 5K and One-Mile Fun Run events attracted 5,068 runners
to this year Gulf Coast Running Festival for Charity, the popular
running event that annually helps raise thousands of dollars for the
Food World – Senior Bowl Charitable Partnership.

Charity Run's 10K and 5K races in downtown Mobile.
Since its inception, the Charitable Partnership has donated over $4.2
million to Gulf Coast Charities.
Cool temperatures and sunny skies were the norm for the day, as runners
of all ages and fitness levels, their families and friends took part in
the event’s three races and post-race activities.
In the 10K race, Darlene Burke of Austin, Texas, took top honors in the
overall women’s division with a time of 40:25, while the overall men’s
10K champion was Walker Yane of Mobile in a time of 33:20.
In the 5K event, 15-year-old Dalton Pierce of Daphne, Ala., won his
second consecutive Charity Run 5K men’s title with a time of 18:02. The
women’s 5K champ was Jaclyn Ferrentino of Daphne in a time of 23:15.
Masters winners in the 10K were Frank Malone of Gulf Shores, Ala., for
the men and Paula Piazza of Shalimar, Fla., for the women, while the 5K
masters champions were Katie Knight of Spanish Fort, Ala., for the women
and Ron Renfroe of Lucedale, Miss., for the men.
Over 3,000 Mobile and Baldwin County students and their families
participated in the Healthy Families, Healthy Kids Fun Run. The Boys’
Fun Run winner was De’Uatai Kemp, a 14-year-old who attends Gilliard
Elementary School in Mobile, while the Girls’ Fun Run winner was Ali
Sutherland, a 10-year old student at St. Paul’s in Mobile.
Following the race, all participants and their families were treated to
the Food World Family Fun Festival in the Mobile Convention Center
featuring free food, beverages, games and interactives for kids and live
musical entertainment.
