Food World Senior Bowl Charity Run Seeking Area's Fastest Running Families

Popular event, which raises funds for the Food World - Senior Bowl Charitable Partnership, seeks to find the fastest running families along the Gulf Coast

MOBILE, Ala. (October 16, 2007) -- While there are many ways to participate in the 20th annual Food World Senior Bowl Charity Run on November 3, one of the most fun and rewarding may be through the new Fastest Family competition in place for this year’s race.

This year, family members of all ages can compete together as a team during the race’s 5K and 10K events through the streets of downtown Mobile.

The Fastest Family competition will be broken down into two categories in both the 5K and 10K races – “Under 18” and “18 and Over”. Families participating in the Under 18 category will have at least one scoring member under the age of 18, while the 18 and Over category will have all scoring members at least 18 years of age.

Families of all ages are encouraged to participate in the Fastest Family
Competition which will be held in conjunction with this year's 20th anniversary
Food World Senior Bowl Charity Run's 10K and 5K events.

Each family designates a team captain, and team members can include any category of relatives such as children, spouses, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc.

The winner is then determined by the lowest combined times of the first three finishers on each family team.

“The Food World – Senior Bowl Charity Run is a fun, family-oriented charity event, so it seemed only natural to add a special family competition to this year’s race,” said Senior Bowl media relations director Vic Knight. “It is important to note that only three family members are needed to enter a team, and there is no additional charge to participate.”

A special award will be presented to the fastest family in both the 5K and 10K races during the post-race awards ceremony held at the Mobile Convention Center.

To enter the Charity Run’s Fastest Family competition and for further information, complete the entry form available on the special Charity Run section at the bowl’s website at www.seniorbowl.com and return it to race headquarters prior to race day.

There is no cost to enter the Fastest Family competition.

In addition to the 5K and 10K races and special family competition, organizers are once again offering a One-Mile Fun Run event, all for the low entry fee of just $12.

Pre- and post-race activities have been also expanded this year to provide more entertainment and food than in previous years.

The Charity Run also allows runners to help not just one, but many great causes, as proceeds from the event will go to the Food World-Senior Bowl Charitable Partnership which seeks to raise funds for area charities that benefit youth related activities along the Gulf Coast. Over $4.2 million has been donated to charity since the partnership’s inception.

Participants may run or walk the 10K, 5K or One-Mile events. The 5K race will start at the same place and time as the 10K event at 8:30 a.m., and the fast, flat 10K and 5K courses will begin on Government Street at Hamilton in downtown Mobile and finish on Government Street at Royal, just one block from the Mobile Convention Center, making it convenient for runners to attend all of the post-race festivities.

The Fun Run will start at 10:00 a.m. on Church Street at Royal near Ft. Conde and will finish at the same location as the 10K and 5K races on Government Street at Royal.

For the $12 entry fee, each runner will receive the race’s popular 100 percent cotton long-sleeve T-shirt and admittance to the Food World Family Fun Festival held following the event in the Mobile Convention Center. The most generous post-race event in the South, the Festival will feature free food such as fruit, jambalaya, hot dogs, yogurt, ice cream and more, musical entertainment and interactive games and activities.

Also, the first 1,000 registered runners will be able to attend free of charge the Whitney Bank Pasta Party held the Friday evening before the race in the Mobile Convention Center featuring all-you-can-eat pasta, salad, dessert and beverages, as well as live musical entertainment.
