Henry, Willis Win Senior Bowl NFL Top Performances Honors

MOBILE, Ala. (September 11, 2007) -- Denver Broncos running back Travis Henry earned the inaugural Senior Bowl NFL Alumni Offensive Top Performance Award for opening weekend, as he rushed for 139 yards on 23 carries to lead the Broncos to a 15-14 last-second victory over the Buffalo Bills.

A host of former Senior Bowl players turned in stellar defensive performances in week one, but none more memorable or as impactful as San Francisco 49ers rookie linebacker Patrick Willis. The 11th player chosen overall in the 2007 draft, who was also coached during Senior Bowl Week by San Francisco 49ers head coach Mike Nolan and his staff, recorded 11 tackles and forced a fumble to earn the inaugural Senior Bowl NFL Alumni Top Defensive Performance award.

Over 575 former Senior Bowl players are currently active in the NFL.

Other top performances by former Senior Bowl players in the NFL on Opening Weekend 2007 included:

Passing:

  • Josh McCown, Oakland – Passed for 313 yards, completing 30 of 40 attempts, and two touchdowns.
  • Jay Cutler, Denver – Completed 23-39 for 304 yards and one TD in 15-14 Broncos win.
  • Matt Schaub, Houston – Completed 16 of 25 for 225 yards and a touchdown in 20-3 Texans’ win over Kansas City.

Rushing:

  • Joseph Addai, Indianapolis – gained 118 yards on 23 carries and added a touchdown in 41-10 route of New Orleans.
  • Shaun Alexander, Seattle – The 2005 NFL MVP, he rushed for 105 yards and a touchdown in 20-6 win over Tampa Bay.

Receiving:

  • Javon Walker, Denver – caught nine passes for 119 yards.
  • Reggie Wayne, Indianapolis – caught passes for 115 yards and two touchdowns in defending Super Bowl champs’ 41-10 win.

Defense:

  • Julian Peterson, LB, Seattle – had seven tackles and two quarterback sacks in Seahawks’ 20-6 win.
  • Barrett Ruud, LB, Tampa Bay – 13 total tackles.
  • Angelo Crowell, LB, Buffalo – ten total tackles.
  • Jermaine Phillips, DB, Tampa Bay – recorded ten total tackles, eight unassisted.
  • Madieu Williams, DB, Cincinnati – had ten tackles, seven unassisted, in 27-20 Bengals’ win.
  • Kenyon Coleman, DE, New York Jets – recorded 12 total tackles, ten unassisted.
