Tomlinson, Phillips Are Senior Bowl NFL Alumni Top Performers Of The Week

MOBILE, Ala. (October 16, 2007) -- San Diego Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson, the NFL’s MVP in 2006, was the Senior Bowl NFL Alumni Top Offensive Performer of the Week winner for Week Six, as his 198-yard rushing, four-touchdown effort against the Oakland Raiders keyed a 28-14 Chargers victory.

Tomlinson’s teammate, linebacker Shaun Phillips, earned the Top Defensive Performer of the Week award, as his nine tackles included two quarterback sacks. He also added a forced fumble during an outstanding defensive effort for the Chargers.

Over 575 former Senior Bowl players are currently active in the NFL.

Other top performances by former Senior Bowl players in the NFL in Week Six include:

Passing:

  • Carson Palmer, Cincinnati – Passed for 320 yards, completing 26 of 43 attempts and two touchdowns.
  • Donovan McNabb, Philadelphia – Completed 22-35 passes for 278 yards and a touchdown in 16-9 victory.
  • Matt Schaub, Houston – Completed 19-31 passes for 259 yards.

Rushing:

  • DeAngelo Williams, Carolina – 10-121 yards and one TD in 25-10 win over Arizona.
  • Brian Westbrook, Philadelphia – rushed for 120 yards on 20 carries in 19-6 win.
  • Larry Johnson, Kansas City – 2003 Senior Bowl MVP gained 119 yards on 31 carries and scored a TD in Chiefs’ 27-20 win.
  • Fred Taylor, Jacksonville – rushed for 90 yards on just six carries in 37-17 win.

Receiving:

  • Kevin Curtis, Philadelphia – caught five passes for 121 yards and a touchdown in 16-9 Eagles win.
  • Bobby Engram, Seattle – had nine receptions for 120 yards.
  • Amani Toomer, New York Giants – seven catches for 89 yards and 1 TD.

Defense:

  • Josh Bullocks, DB, New Orleans – eight tackles, one interception in 28-17 Saints victory.
  • DeMarcus Ware, LB, Dallas – ten tackles, one sack.
  • D’Qwell Jackson, LB, Cleveland – nine tackles, all unassisted.
  • Donnie Edwards, LB, Kansas City – nine tackles.
  • Sean Considine, DB, Philadelphia – ten total tackles.
