Cutler, Trufant Earn Senior Bowl Top Alumni Performer Awards For Week 14

MOBILE, Ala. (December 12, 2007) -- Denver Broncos second-year quarterback Jay Cutler won his second Senior Bowl NFL Alumni Top Offensive Performer of the Week Award for his performance in Week 14 against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Cutler, who represented Vanderbilt in the 2006 contest, completed 20-27 passes for 241 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Broncos to a 41-7 thrashing of the Chiefs.

Cutler edged out last week’s winner, LaDainian Tomlinson of the Chargers, who had another big game with 146 rushing yards and two touchdowns in the Chargers’ come-from-behind victory over the Titans.

Seattle Seahawks defensive back Marcus Trufant turned in the week’s top defensive performance by a Senior Bowl alum, as he intercepted three passes and recorded six tackles in his team’s 42-21 division-clinching victory over the Cardinals. The 2003 Senior Bowler from Washington State returned one of those interceptions 84 yards for a touchdown.

Other top defensive performances by Senior Bowl alums included three-sack performances by both Elvis Dumervil of the Broncos and Kyle Vanden Bosch of the Titans, and a 13-tackle, 1-sack effort by Morlon Greenwood of the Texans.

Other top performances by former Senior Bowl players in the NFL during Week 14 included:

Passing:

  • Chris Redman, Atlanta – Passed for 298 yards and two touchdowns.
  • Brett Favre, Green Bay – Completed 15-23 for 266 yards and two TD’s.
  • Philip Rivers, San Diego – Led Chargers to comeback victory with two TD passes and 228 passing yards.
  • David Garrard, Jacksonville – Passed for 230 yards, completing 20 of 36, and two touchdowns.

Rushing:

  • LaDainian Tomlinson, San Diego – Rushed for 146 yards on 26 carries and scored two TD’s – one rushing and one receiving.
  • Fred Taylor, Jacksonville – Had another 100-yard rushing game, gaining 132 yards on 18 carries, good for an impressive 7.3 per carry average, and scored a touchdown.
  • Brian Westbook, Philadelphia – Continued outstanding 2007 season with 116 rushing yards on 20 carries.

Receiving:

  • Jerricho Cotchery, New York Jets – Caught six passes for 119 yards.
  • Derek Hagan, Miami – Had eight receptions for 93 yards.
  • Bernard Berrian, Chicago – Caught seven for 91 yards and a touchdown.
  • Mark Clayton, Baltimore – Had seven receptions for 90 yards.
  • Michael Jenkins, Atlanta – Caught nine passes for 83 yards and a touchdown.

Defense:

  • Elvis Dumervil, DL, Denver – Recorded five total tackles, one forced fumble and three quarterback sacks in Broncos’ victory.
  • Morlon Greenwood, LB, Houston – Had 13 total tackles and one sack.
  • Bob Sanders, DB, Indianapolis – Pro Bowl safety had ten total tackles, nine unassisted.
  • Chad Greenway, LB, Minnesota – Second-year pro had 11 total tackles, seven unassisted.
  • Trent Cole, DL, Philadelphia – Had six total tackles and two quarterback sacks.
  • Kyle Vanden Bosch, Tennessee – Recorded eight total tackles, seven unassisted, and three sacks.
  • Ronald Bartell, DB, St. Louis – Turned in outstanding performance with eight total tackles, an interception and one forced fumble.
  • Greg Ellis, DL, Dallas – Had three tackles, a sack and a forced fumble.
  • Alex Brown, DL, Chicago – Recorded seven tackles, a sack and also forced a fumble.

Special Teams:

  • Will Blackmon, Green Bay – Scored two special teams touchdowns in Packers’ 38-7 victory. Returned a punt 57 yards for his first career touchdown, and also recovered a fumbled punt in the end zone for another touchdown to help seal victory.
