Taylor, Urlacher Earn Senior Bowl Top Alumni Performer Awards For Week 15

MOBILE, Ala. (December 20, 2007) -- Jacksonville Jaguars veteran running back Fred Taylor won the Senior Bowl NFL Alumni Top Offensive Performer of the Week Award for his performance in Week 15 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Taylor, who represented Florida in the 1998 Senior Bowl, rushed for 147 yards and a touchdown in the Jaguars’ 29-22 victory. Taylor has enjoyed a banner 2007 season, rushing for 1,091 yards through the first 14 games.

A former Senior Bowler also made one of the smartest plays of the NFL season when Pro Bowl running back Brian Westbrook of the Eagles took a knee at the goal line instead of easily scoring a touchdown in the final minutes which enabled the Eagles to then run out the clock and defeat the Dallas Cowboys, 10-6.

Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher, the 2005 NFL Defensive Player of the Year, turned in the week’s top defensive performance by a Senior Bowl alum, as he made six total tackles, two sacks, one interception and also recovered a fumble in a dominating effort against the Vikings.

Urlacher represented New Mexico in the 2000 Senior Bowl.

Other top defensive performances by Senior Bowl alums included a nine-tackle, 1.5 sacks and two forced fumble effort by New England Patriots linebacker Adalius Thomas, and a 15-tackle game by Atlanta Falcons linebacker Keith Brooking.

Over 575 former Senior Bowl players are currently active in the NFL, including 24 players who were named to the rosters for the 2008 NFL Pro Bowl game.

Other top performances by former Senior Bowl players in the NFL during Week 15 included:

Passing:

  • Brett Favre, Green Bay – Completed 19-30 for 227 yards and two touchdowns.
  • David Garrard, Jacksonville – Passed for 197 yards and three TD’s in win over Steelers.
  • Jay Cutler, Denver – Was 27-39 for 254 yards and one TD.
  • Carson Palmer, Cincinnati – Completed 19-31 for 252 and one score.

Rushing:

  • LaDainian Tomlinson, San Diego – Rushed for 116 yards on just 15 carries and two touchdowns.
  • Brian Westbrook, Philadelphia – Rushed for 81 yards on 18 carries and added 63 more on nine catches and made one of the smartest plays of the year when he took a knee at the goal line in the game’s final moments instead of easily scoring a touchdown which enabled the Eagles to run out the clock and defeat the Cowboys.
  • Darren Sproles, San Diego – Gained 122 yards on 25 carries and scored two touchdowns.

Receiving:

  • Roydell Williams, Tennessee – Caught four passes for 94 yards and scored two touchdowns.
  • Bobby Engram, Seattle – Had nine receptions for 84 yards.
  • Dennis Northcutt, Jacksonville – Caught four for 81 yards and a TD.
  • Deion Branch, Seattle – Hauled in eight passes for 79 yards.

Defense:

  • Eugene Wilson, DB, New England – Intercepted a pass and also recovered a fumble in Patriots’ win.
  • Trent Cole, DL, Philadelphia – Had three total tackles, one sack and a forced fumble.
  • Bradie James, LB, Dallas – Had seven tackles and a sack.
  • Marcus Trufant, DB, Seattle – Pro Bowler had nine total tackles.
  • Keith Bulluck, LB, Tennessee – Had ten total tackles, eight unassisted.
  • Jason Taylor, DE/LB, Miami – 2006 NFL Defensive Player of the Year had four tackles and two sacks in Miami victory.
  • Adalius Thomas, LB, New England – Recorded nine tackles, eight unassisted, added 1.5 sacks and forced two fumbles.
  • Gerald Hayes, LB, Arizona – Recorded ten tackles, nine unassisted, and a sack.
  • Keith Brooking, LB, Atlanta – Had monster tackle game with 15 total stops, ten unassisted.

Special Teams:

  • Mason Crosby, K, Green Bay – Rookie kicker was a perfect 4-4 on field goals and leads NFL in scoring with 130 total points.
