Charitable Partnership Makes Major Donation To Mobile County Sheriff's
Flotilla
Donation of $25,000
will be used by Sheriff’s Flotilla to purchase new sonar and operation
equipment.

MOBILE, Ala. (February 8, 2008) -- On January 16, the Mobile County
Commission called upon Mobile area businesses and citizens to contribute to
the Mobile County Sheriff’s Flotilla.
On Friday, the Food World-Senior Bowl
Charitable Partnership responded to that challenge by presenting a major
$25,000 donation to the Sheriff’s Flotilla during a press conference held at
the Senior Bowl offices in downtown Mobile.
The Sheriff’s Flotilla is a strictly volunteer
organization that conducts search and rescue missions in local waters. The
Flotilla recently spent several exhaustive and hazardous days in January
searching a wide area off Dauphin Island for four Bayou La Batre children.

“We’re very proud to join with Food World
through the Food World-Senior Bowl Charitable Partnership to once again make
a major charitable donation in our community and to respond to this
tremendous need,” said Senior Bowl President Steve Hale. “While the
Sheriff’s Flotilla played a major role during the terrible tragedy that
occurred near Dauphin Island in January, it spends countless hours
throughout the year in similar searches and rescues, many of which are
life-saving in nature.”
The $25,000 donation will be used to purchase
new sonar and operation equipment that will undoubtedly prove to be an
invaluable aid in future searches conducted by the Flotilla.
“Food World and the Senior Bowl’s generous
contribution will no doubt play a critical role in helping the Sheriff’s
Flotilla serve the needs of hundreds of people in Mobile and Baldwin
counties who will find themselves in water-related crises,” said Sheriff Sam
Cochran. “The quick response by Food World and the Senior Bowl to the need
in our community truly speaks to the definition of charity.”
Since its inception, the Food Word-Senior Bowl
Charitable Partnership has created an amazing legacy of charitable giving,
one that has succeeded in donating over $4.2 million to Gulf Coast
charities. Funds that are donated by the partnership are raised by Food
World and the Senior Bowl through successful charitable events held in
Mobile throughout the year.
“Supporting our local communities has always
been a part of Food World’s corporate mission,” said Food World district
manager Keith McCarty. “Being able to respond to this specific and very
important need serves as another example as to how the Food World-Senior
Bowl Charitable Partnership is able to make a real difference in the Gulf
Coast area, and it would not have been possible without the support of our
loyal customers and vendors.”
Food World is owned and operated by Bruno’s
Supermarkets, LLC, with headquarters in Birmingham that currently serves
major markets in Alabama and the panhandle of Florida with 67 stores under
the Bruno’s, Food World and Food Max banners.
The Senior Bowl is owned by the Mobile Arts
and Sports Association, a non-profit organization that has been responsible
for the donation of over $7.5 million to area charities since its formation
in 1951.
