Under Armour To Outfit Senior
Bowl Players In
New Look Game Jerseys
Innovative
performance apparel manufacturer and game title sponsor will outfit
South team in state-of-the-art white jerseys, while the North will wear
dark blue.

MOBILE, Ala. (January
18, 2008) -- Players participating in the 2008 Under Armour Senior
Bowl will have a new look on game day, thanks to newly-designed,
state-of-the-art game jerseys designed and provided by the game’s title
sponsor, Under Armour.
This year’s Senior Bowl South team will white
jerseys with blue numbers and red trim, while the North will wear dark blue
jerseys with white numbers and red trim.
"Our commitment to grassroots football
competitions is a cornerstone of our marketing approach. The Under Armour
Senior Bowl has a storied tradition of on-field authenticity, and we’re
proud to provide the performance apparel that will help a player launch his
gridiron legacy," said Steve Battista, Vice President of Brand. "For
tomorrow's stars playing in this game, the classic white jersey vs. blue
jersey match-up will mark the culmination of their collegiate football
career."
In addition to the jerseys, Under Armour also
provides Senior Bowl players with the most technologically advanced apparel
on the market allowing them to perform at optimum levels in the week-long
practices and game that are the key tools used by NFL coaches, scouts and
training staffs to judge the best talent in the country as they prepare for
the draft.
The jersey color change also marks a classic
return to the colors used in the Senior Bowl’s early years, when the South
wore white jerseys with a star pattern on the shoulder and the North wore
dark blue jerseys with shoulder stars, from the very first game in 1950
through the 1962 contest.
In 1963, the South changed to bright red
jerseys and the North wore white, a color scheme that was used for every
Senior Bowl through 2007, with the exception of 1991-93 when the game used
the AFC-NFC team format.
Under Armour is currently in its second year
as the Senior Bowl’s title sponsor, and brings its expertise in performance
apparel and rich history on the gridiron to the Senior Bowl athletes in what
is essentially the first game of the players' potential NFL careers.
Under Armour, known as the originator of
moisture wicking performance apparel worn by athletes, launched its first
line of footwear-football cleats-during the 2006 NFL draft with a major
media campaign entitled CLICK-CLACK™, a reference to the sound that cleats
make on concrete just before the players step on the field.
The Senior Bowl annually features 100 of the
best senior collegiate football players and top NFL draft prospects on teams
representing the North and South. Over 575 former Senior Bowl players are
currently active in the NFL, and the 2008 NFL Pro Bowl rosters featured 24
former Senior Bowl players. Over the past seven years, the Senior Bowl has
featured an average of 11 NFL first-round draft choices each year with 95
percent of players in the game making active NFL rosters.
“We’re very pleased that Under Armour is the
title sponsor of the Senior Bowl game,” said Senior Bowl President and CEO
Steve Hale. “As the originator of performance apparel, Under Armour is a an
innovative, worldwide corporation whose title sponsorship will continue to
greatly enhance our event and the overall Senior Bowl experience not only
for our players, but also for the NFL coaches and scouts and thousands of
fans who attend our game each year.”
