Senior Bowl All-Time Team
Member Monk Among New Pro Football Hall Of Fame Inductees
Former Syracuse star
played in the 1980 Senior Bowl and was named to the game’s All-Time Team
in 1999.
MOBILE, Ala. (February 2, 2008) -- Another former Senior Bowl player
received pro football’s highest honor on Saturday, as former Washington
Redskins great Art Monk was named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s
Class of 2008.
Monk, who represented
Syracuse in the 1980 Senior Bowl, was one of three receivers elected to
the All-Time Senior Bowl Team, chosen by fans as part of the game’s 50th
anniversary celebration in 1999. The others were fellow Hall of Famers
Steve Largent and Lynn Swann.

Monk’s election also
brings to 46 the number of former Senior Bowl players and coaches
who have now been honored with enshrinement in the Pro Football Hall
of Fame.
Monk concluded his career
after the 1995 season with the Philadelphia Eagles, but spent 13 years
with the Redskins as one of the NFL's premier receivers.
At the time of his
retirement, Monk held NFL records for most consecutive games with a
reception (164) and career catches (820). Both have been surpassed, but
Monk didn't play in as wide-open an era on offense as many other
receivers.
He was also one of the
most consistent possession and third-down receivers in the league
throughout his 14 pro seasons.
