19th Annual Food World Senior Bowl Regatta Set For January 19

Senior Bowl Week 2008 kicks off with this premier event that attracts sailing enthusiasts from throughout the Southeast to the waters of Mobile Bay.

MOBILE, Ala. (December 30, 2007) -- The waters of Mobile Bay will once again be filled with sailing enthusiasts from throughout the Southeast during the 19th annual Food World Senior Bowl Regatta, set for Saturday, January 19.

The event, which serves as the official kickoff to Senior Bowl Week 2008 festivities, is also one of the premier sailing events held along the Gulf Coast each year.

Over 50 boats are expected to take part in this year’s event, which also serves as the first two races of the Mobile Yacht Club’s Winter Racing season.

“While we are always pleased to have the distinction of officially kicking off Senior Bowl Week festivities in Mobile each year, the Food World Senior Bowl Sailing Regatta has also developed into a premier sailing event in its own right over the past 18 years,” said Regatta Chairman Tex Harper. “We’re looking forward to putting on another outstanding event for the many participants who come from throughout the Southeast to take part in this race each year.”

Zane Yoder captained “Wild Cherry” to first place in the PHRF category in last year’s Regatta, while Scott Godbold aboard “Wind Nuts” won the Portsmouth Cruising Class for the third straight year.

This year’s Food World Senior Bowl Regatta once again featured spectacular trophies and prizes for the winners of the two divisions – the Performance Handicap fleet and the Portsmouth Cruising fleet – and the overall winner will also receive tickets to the 2008 Under Armour Senior Bowl football game, scheduled for January 26 in Mobile’s Ladd-Peebles Stadium.

The Regatta winner also receives the Perpetual Senior Bowl Trophy, a grand silver wine cooler engraved with all of the past winners of the Food World Senior Bowl Regatta.

Regatta registration will take place from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 18 at the Mobile Yacht Club, with a skipper’s meeting slated for 7:30 p.m.

The Regatta will start at 11:30 a.m. on January 19, with the Awards Party, featuring live music, set for 7:00 p.m. that evening.
