Senior Bowl Looking For The Next "Superstar"

Area singer will once again have the unique opportunity to perform the
National Anthem prior to the 2008 Under Armour Senior Bowl.

MOBILE, Ala. (December 7, 2007) -- The Senior Bowl is looking for its next “Superstar.”

For the fifth straight year, bowl officials will be conducting the Senior Bowl Superstar competition, which offers talented area singers the chance to compete for the unique opportunity to sing the National Anthem prior to the 2008 Under Armour Senior Bowl.

“Senior Bowl Superstar has been a very popular addition to our event and we are already getting many inquiries regarding this year’s competition,” said Senior Bowl Sales and Marketing Director Chris Morgan. “While we have always been impressed with the outstanding quality of talented singers who have participated each year in the preliminary competitions, we’ve also been very pleased with the tremendous amount of interest that Senior Bowl Superstar has created along the Gulf Coast.”

Last year, Mishondia Robinson, a 33-year-old resident of Mobile, won the fourth annual competition, as over 8,000 online votes were cast.

Bowl officials have announced details of this year’s competition. The preliminary round will take place on Saturday, January 5, 2008, at the Mobile Civic Center Theater, with competition beginning at 8:30 a.m.

There will be two stages to this year’s preliminary round. In Stage 1, all participants will be asked to perform the National Anthem. Following this stage, ten semi-finalists will then be selected by the judges and asked to perform a song of their choice.

Following the performances by the ten semi-finalists, judges will then select three finalists. The finalists will perform on the WKRG-TV morning show during the week of January 8-11.

Viewers of the finals and the general public will then be asked to select this year’s Senior Bowl Superstar by voting through the Senior Bowl’s website at www.seniorbowl.com and WKRG-TV’s website at www.wkrg.com.

The winner of the competition will perform the National Anthem during pre-game ceremonies of the 2008 Under Armour Senior Bowl, scheduled for Saturday, January 26 in Mobile’s Ladd-Peebles Stadium.

Registration for the preliminary round is free and will take place from December 26-January 4, with all registration taking place in person at the Senior Bowl ticket office located in the Riverview Plaza office tower in downtown Mobile.

Only the first 100 people/groups who register will be allowed to take part in the preliminary competition, and all competitors must pre-register in person. Groups must be limited to no more than six people.
