MOBILE, Ala. (April 23, 2008) -- Senior Bowl officials have announced
the finalists for the first-annual Food World Senior Bowl Charity Run
t-shirt art design contest. The contest was open to Mobile and Baldwin
County students in grades K-8 and over 500 children submitted entries.
“After reviewing the many entries that were submitted by school children
throughout the area, we were very pleased with the level of artistic
ability that was displayed within much of the artwork that we received,”
said Senior Bowl President Steve Hale. “It was very difficult to narrow
the list of finalists down to just three.”
The finalists are Alexis Bettner, a fifth-grader from Fairhope
Intermediate School, Nolan Davison, a second-grader from Old Shell Road
School for the Creative and Performing Arts, and Peyton Thomasson, a
sixth-grader from St. Ignatius School.
The winning student will have their artwork displayed on over 5,000
t-shirts that will be distributed to participants in the 21st Annual
Food World Senior Bowl Charity Run as well as on registration materials
produced for the event that will take place in the fall. The winner will
also receive a $250 gift card to Hobby Lobby, four entries into the 2008
Food World Senior Bowl Charity Run, four tickets to the 2009 Under
Armour Senior Bowl game, and on-field recognition as the winning artist
during the game, that will take place on January 24, 2009.
The winning artwork will be selected through an on-line vote that will
be held on www.seniorbowl.com
during the week of April 27th and the winner will be announced during
the week of May 5th.
The art design contest is an expansion of Food World’s and the Senior
Bowl organization’s dedication to the youth throughout the area. Over
3,000 Mobile and Baldwin County students and their families annually
take part in the Food World Senior Bowl Charity Run School Program,
which offers students a chance to participate in the race at a reduced
rate and helps raise funds for each school. The race has also helped
generate over $4.2 million through the Food World-Senior Bowl Charitable
Partnership that makes donations specifically to youth-related
organizations along the Gulf Coast.
