Registration Picking Up for Senior Bowl Charity Run

Mobile, AL. (Nov. 5)—With race day quickly approaching, registration for the 22nd annual Senior Bowl Charity Run is picking up the pace.  After a record turnout last year and a picture perfect weather forecast predicted for Saturday, race officials are expecting another late sure of signups in the final days of registration.

“Registration is really starting to pick up,” Senior Bowl Public Relations Director Kevin McDermond said.  “With Saturday’s weather looking perfect and a fast, flat course awaiting our runners, we are really looking forward to another successful event.”

Registration for the 10K, 5K and one-mile Fun Run will continue all the way until race time at 8 am Saturday morning.  Interested runners must note however that the entry fee of $15 will increase to $20 on Friday, November 6th and Saturday, November 7th.  Runners wishing to register for the Charity Run can do so at Senior Bowl headquarters at 151 Dauphin Street in downtown Mobile.

Pre-registered runners can begin picking up their race packets today at Senior Bowl headquarters.  Packet pickup hours are: Thursday (9:00 am – 5:00 pm), Friday (9:00 am – 6:00 pm) and Saturday (6:00 am – 8:00 am).

Every registered runner will receive the popular Senior Bowl Charity Run long-sleeve cotton t-shirt and a race bib.  All registered runners will also gain admittance to the Family Fun Festival in Bienville Square.  Free food and drink, clowns and face painting for the kids and the annual awards ceremony are among the highlights of this year’s Family Fun Festival.  Bienville Square will also be the site of the post-race awards ceremony.

“The Senior Bowl Charity Run really offers a little something for everyone,” McDermond said. “Whether you’re a serious runner or a casual walker, we have an event for you.  With all three races ending at Bienville Square, the Family Fun Festival is the perfect finishing touch to this event.”

Race day begins Saturday morning at 8 am with the running of the 5K, followed by the 10K start at 8:15 am and the Healthy Families Healthy Kids Fun Run at 10 am.  The 5K will start at the intersection of Government Street and Claiborne Street while the 10K and Fun Run will start at the intersection of Government Street and Conception Street.  County Commissioner Stephen Nodine will act as the official starter.

Since 2002, the Senior Bowl Charity Run has helped raise more than $4.5 million for Gulf Coast charities.  For more information on the 22nd annual Senior Bowl Charity run please visit www.seniorbowl.com or call (251) 438-2276.
