Under Armour Senior Bowl Grabs Two from Mizzou

Mobile, AL. (Jan. 5)---A pair of Missouri Tigers will suit up for the North squad later this month at the 2010 Under Armour Senior Bowl.  Wide receiver Danario Alexander and linebacker Sean Weatherspoon have both accepted invitations to the 61st game, officials announced today.  The 2010 game is scheduled for January 30th at 3pm (CT) in Mobile’s Ladd-Peebles Stadium and will be televised live by the NFL Network.

Alexander was a first team All-Big 12 (AP & Coaches) selection and second team All-American (AP, Sporting News, Walter Camp) in 2009.  He leads the country in receiving yards (1,781) and receiving yards per game (137).  His 8.69 receptions per game average ranks second in the nation and he finished the year with 14 receiving touchdowns—which is currently third best in the Big 12.

Alexander broke the 100-yard receiving mark in nine games this season and went over the 200-yard mark three times.  His best outing came in a 15 catch, 233 yard effort in the Tigers’ regular season finale against Kansas. The Marlin, Texas native finished his career with 2,778 yards and 22 touchdowns on 191 catches.  He is the school’s all-time leading receiver and owner of single-season receiving records in receptions (113), touchdowns (14) and yards (1,781).

Weatherspoon was also a first team All-Big 12 (AP & Coaches) and second team All-American (AP, Sporting News, Walter Camp) pick in 2009.  The Butkus Award finalist led the Tigers with 111 tackles his senior season.  He also notched 4.5 sacks and one interception.  He ranks in the top ten in both tackles (3rd) and tackles for a loss (7th) in the Big 12.

The Jasper, Texas native sits second on Missouri’s all time list with 413 career tackles.  He was a three-year starter for the Tigers and led the team in tackles each of those three years.  Weatherspoon also had four interceptions in his career, two of which he returned for touchdowns.

“Danario and Sean are both exceptional football players and their numbers this season speak for themselves,” Senior Bowl President and CEO Steve Hale said.  “To have two of the best players in the nation at their respective positions come from the same team is quite impressive.”
