2010 Hall of Fame inductees Terrell Owens and Larry Johnson |
Established by the Mobile Arts and Sports Association and sponsored by Mobile Gas and Regions Bank, the Senior Bowl Hall of Fame inducted its nine-member charter class prior to the 1988 Senior Bowl. This year’s class was ushered in on the eve of the 2010 Under Armour Senior Bowl when Terrell Owens and Larry Johnson were honored during a ceremony at the Country Club of Mobile.
Owens is one of the most prolific wide receivers in the game today. The six-time Pro Bowl selection is just the sixth player in NFL history to record 1,000 career receptions. In 14 NFL seasons, “T.O.” has totaled 1,006 receptions, 14,951 receiving yards and 147 total touchdowns (144 receiving, 3 rushing). His career receiving yards rank third on the NFL’s all-time list, behind only Jerry Rice and Isaac Bruce. The Alexander City, Alabama native has had nine 1,000-yard seasons and currently is the only player in NFL history to score a touchdown against all 32 NFL teams. His record of 20 receptions in a single-game (vs. Chicago, 2000) stood until this past season when Denver’s Brandon Marshall snagged 21 catches in a game.

Terrell Owens
Owens was a third round draft choice by the San Francisco 49ers after representing Tennessee-Chattanooga in the 1996 Senior Bowl. After eight seasons with the Niners, Owens moved to Philadelphia where he spent two years with the Eagles. In 2006 he signed with Dallas and played three seasons with the Cowboys before joining the Buffalo Bills prior to the 2009 season. While at UT-Chattanooga, Owens played football, basketball and ran track for the Mocs.
Larry Johnson was a two-time Pro Bowl running back for the Kansas City Chiefs before signing with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2009. The Penn State product claimed Most Valuable Player honors in the 2003 Senior Bowl after helping lead his North team to a 17-0 shutout of the South that year. He arrived in Mobile with some major hardware in his trophy case—winning the Doak Walker Award (top running back), Jim Brown Award (top running back), Maxwell Award (top college player) and Walter Camp Award (top college player) his senior year.

Larry Johnson
The Kansas City Chiefs selected Johnson with the 27th pick in the first round of the 2003 NFL draft. While with the Chiefs, Johnson set an NFL single-season record for most rushing attempts with 416 carries in 2006. He spent 6 ½ seasons in Kansas City, setting a franchise record for rushing yards in 2005 (1,750) and again in 2006 (1,789) before joining the Cincinnati Bengals halfway through the 2009 regular season. For his career, Johnson has 6,219 rushing yards and 55 touchdowns. He has proven to be equally effective catching the ball, racking up 1,373 career receiving yards and another six touchdowns.
The Senior Bowl Hall of Fame is now 96 members strong and features some of the finest football players, coaches and administrators that have either played in or been associated with this great game over the last 60 years.
The addition of Owens and Johnson into the Senior Bowl Hall of Fame only adds to the unmatched legacy the Senior Bowl has established through the years, and offers further proof that the senior showcase event is in a class of its own.
