We've been looking at all the various postions on both offense and defense over the past several weeks. Today, we're focusing on the tight end postion.
When scouts travel around the country and visit colleges they are really looking at three areas when scouting tight ends:
1. SUDDENNESS: This is the ability to separate and get away from man coverage on defense.
2. PASS CATCHING ABILITY: Looking at the hands and the ability to extend the hands away from the body and make the grab.
3. BLOCKING ABILITY: This is not only run blocking, but pass blocking as well.
Watch the video above to see examples from former Rice and now 49er tight end Vance McDonald, a member of the South team at the 2013 Senior Bowl.
