SENIOR (2018):

Has started 49 consecutive games, every game of his career, and played every offensive snap (3,185 plays) in 2018.

Named a finalist for the William Campbell Trophy and a semifinalist for the Wuerffel Trophy. Scored on a two-point conversion by taking a lateral pass and rumbling into the end zone vs. Ohio.

Huskie backs have totaled seven 100-yard rushing games in 2018 after two tailbacks went over the 100-yard mark vs. Toledo.

NIU has gained 296 rushing yards in back-to-back games. Line has led NIU backs to seven 100-yard rushing games by Childers (1), Marcus Jones (2) and Harbison (4), including 169-yard efforts by Childers vs. Ohio and Harbison at Akron.

Did not allow any sacks or QB pressures versus Utah, BYU or Florida State. Graded out to a 90 percent average in NIU’s last four games, including a 92 percent mark vs. Toledo.

Gave up a sack for the first time since 2015 at Iowa. Named one of Top 10 offensive linemen in the FBS by USA Today.

Second team preseason All-America choice by USA Today and on Athlon’s fourth team. Grad student will earn his master’s degree in December.

JUNIOR (2017):

Earned Google Cloud Academic All-District honors for the third straight year.

Moved to left tackle in 2017 and excelled as stalwart on the Huskie line. • Recorded a pass block efficiency of 99.0, according to PFF (pressures per snap) with just six pressures allowed on 458 pass blocking snaps.  

A second team CoSIDA Academic All-American. 

Started 39 consecutive games, every game of his NIU career.

Leader on the Huskie offensive line who played every meaningful snap again in 2017.

Led the way to Jordan Huff’s team season and career best 185-yard rushing game vs. WMU.

On the Outland Trophy Watch List and was a Wuerffel Trophy nominee. • Cleared the way for four 100-yard rushing games by NIU backs, including at Nebraska (9-16) and San Diego State (9-30). 

Huskies compiled a season-best 577 yards, including 338 rushing, at Bowling Green (10-21). 

Earned his undergraduate degree with a 3.99 GPA in kinesiology. 

Named to the Academic All-MAC for the third time and was a MAC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete.

SOPHOMORE (2016): 

All-MAC selection at right tackle

Named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District squad with a 3.99 GPA in kinesiology.

Formed one-half of best pair of tackles in the MAC at right tackle.

Started every game for the second consecutive year.

An honorable mention sophomore All-American by CampusInsiders.

Selected to the Academic All-MAC team and as a MAC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete.

Huskies had a stretch of four games without allowing a sack and led the nation in fewest sacks allowed with eight.

NIU posted its fourth 300-yard rushing game of the season at EMU (11-16) behind 173 yards by Jordan Huff.

The Huskies totaled 511 yards of total offense versus Buffalo (10-22).

Helped lead the way for back-to-back 300-yard rushing games versus WIU (9-24) with 301 and at Ball State (10-1) with 355.

Huskies ranked 16th nationally in rushing offense (239.8 yards/game) and 27th in total offense (463.8).

Three different players posted eight 100-yard rushing games for NIU in 2016.

Appeared in all 12 games with seven starts at right guard.

REDSHIRT FRESHMAN (2015): 

Named FWAA Freshman All-American, the MAC’s only representative on the team.

Was the first Huskie since safety Alex Kube in 2007 to receive that distinction.

Started all 14 games for the Huskies, the only NIU freshman in 2015 to do so.

Started the season at right tackle, but moved to right guard for a few games with Josh Ruka injured.

Named NIU Co-Offensive Player of the Week after the Huskies put up 59 points and 636 yards of total offense against Ball State (10-10).

Transitioned back to right tackle starting at Toledo (11-3), helping the Huskies go on a run to their sixth straight MAC West title.

Selected as NIU Scholar Athlete of the Week for his efforts at Buffalo (11-11) as the Huskies rushed for 334 yards on 67 attempts.

Consistently opened holes for tailback Joel Bouagnon, who tallied 1,285 yards on the ground with 18 touchdowns during the season.

Protected three different NIU quarterbacks during the season.

Earned Academic All-MAC and MAC Distinguished Scholar Athlete recognition thanks to his high GPA as a kinesiology major.

REDSHIRT (2014):

Redshirted.

Named NIU Offensive Scout TeamPlayer of the Week for his help in preparation leading up to the UNLV (9-13) game.

HIGH SCHOOL: 

Three-time all-conference and two-time all-area honoree.

Started all but one game over three seasons on the offensive and defensive lines.

Garnered all-state honors following his senior season.

Posted 13 tackles and a fumble recovery on defense.

Also earned all-area honors from the WIAA and the Green Bay Press-Gazette, along with first team all-conference recognition.

Ended his junior season with first team all-area and all-conference laurels.

Registered eight tackles and two pass breakups in 2012.

Picked up honorable mention all-conference honors as a sophomore.

Born Aug. 10 in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Son of Paul and Jackie Scharping.

Earned his undergraduate degree in kinesiology and enters his second year of graduate school in 2018.
