Senior Bowl Signs Deal with Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine

Group led by world-renowned surgeon Dr. James Andrews will handle athletic training for nation’s top college all-star game

Mobile, AL – The Reese’s Senior Bowl, the first stage of the pre-draft process that showcased 40 percent of the entire 2022 NFL draft class, including 45 of the top 100 players, has partnered with the Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine to provide all athletic training services for the nation’s most prestigious college all-star game.

The Andrews Institute, based out of Gulf Breeze, Florida, was founded on the principles of internationally renowned orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. James Andrews. Its team will work alongside former NFL head athletic trainer and longtime Senior Bowl medical director Dean Kleinschmidt in providing all-encompassing care for game participants.  Additional athletic training support will come from a group of individuals from the National Football League’s HBCU pipeline initiative, as well as students from local Mobile area colleges.

This move was precipitated by a decision from the Professional Football Athletic Trainers Society (PFATS) to cease support of the Senior Bowl and all other college all-star games following the 2021 football season.

Statement from Reese’s Senior Bowl Executive Director Jim Nagy

“The overall player experience is always at the top of our priority list and partnering with the Andrews Institute assures our players will receive the best athletic training care possible while they are in Mobile.”

Statement from James Andrews, M.D.

“The Senior Bowl is an annual tradition and a tremendous event that showcases the best talent in the nation. We’re proud to provide athletic training coverage for these talented athletes and look forward to doing so for many years to come.”
