Trio of OL are 'Plug & Play' starters

Executive Director Phil Savage spent 20 years in the National Football League as a coach, scout, executive and general manager. Prior to the Combine, he will evaluate the Reese’s Senior Bowl practice sessions and game, position-by-position, for both the North and South squads. 

Twenty offensive linemen made their way to Mobile from all levels of college football. As we put together our mythical Reese’s All-Senior Bowl team, here is a look at nine prospects that stood out during the week. 

Plug-and-Play Starters

#77 Isaiah Wynn/Georgia (S)             6024/308        H-8 4/8            A-33 1/8          WS-79 1/8
After playing left tackle for the Bulldogs as a senior, Isaiah shifted inside for the RSB and proved that this transition will be an easy one for him. He has excellent quickness and knee bend, can slide laterally and then set the bottom of the pocket. For an NFL team in need of a guard, Isaiah is a day one starter.

Reese’s Pieces: Named one of the ‘Dawgs permanent captains, Isaiah earned AP 2nd team All-American honors in 2017.

#76 Will Hernandez/UTEP (N) 6024/340        H-9 6/8            A-32 3/8          WS-76 7/8
People talk about two-gap defensive linemen, how about a two-gap offensive lineman? Will is a legitimate wide body who can get significant movement at the point-of-attack in the run game and has enough lateral quickness to secure the pocket when protecting the passer. Will should find playing time early in his NFL career after starting 49 games for the Miners and earning All-American recognition as a junior and senior.

Reese’s Pieces: Will signed with UTEP and head coach Sean Kugler after being a late qualifier coming out of high school and, ironically enough, they were reunited on the North team during the RSB week when his former head coach was hired by Denver a few weeks ahead of the game. 

#73 Tyrell Crosby/Oregon (N)            6047/319        H-10 7/8          A-34 3/8          WS-82 2/8
Tyrell proved to be the most impressive tackle at the RSB with his balance, control and lateral slide ability. He is capable of playing on the right or left side, but will likely find a home on the blindside of a right-handed passer. With his combination of punch and knee bend, Tyrell should have a productive NFL career.

Reese’s Pieces: After missing almost all of the 2016 season with a foot injury, Tyrell returned as a senior and started all 13 games for the Ducks while being tabbed as a first team All-PAC 12 selection.

Upside Potential

#73 Austin Corbett/Nevada (S)          6041/310        H-10 5/8          A-33 3/8          WS-78 4/8
While Austin primarily played tackle during his career at Nevada, on the advice of NFL scouts, the RSB asked him to focus on center in preparing for our week. He has natural athletic ability, proved that he can snap and move at the point-of-attack and showed the kind of versatility across the front line that will make him a valuable member of an offensive line unit as a rookie.

Reese’s Pieces: After redshirting in 2013, Austin became a four-year starter for the Wolfpack and was named All-Mountain West after each of the past three seasons.

Joe has all the physical traits to needed to become an NFL starter in the future. He could potentially line up as a left or right tackle in the pros, depending on a club’s needs. With his height, arm length and foot agility, he is a worthy investment for a team that really wants to coach him.

Reese’s Pieces: Redshirted in 2013, then backed up in 2014 before starting 40 consecutive games for the Horned Frogs at left tackle.

#70 Brian O’Neill/Pittsburgh (N)        6064/298        H-9 3/8            A-34 1/8          WS-80 3/8
An underclassman graduate, Brian was an excellent choice for the RSB North roster because of his frame, arm length and athletic potential. Aligning on both the left and right sides, he must improve his hand placement and increase his strength to reach the full ability level that he possesses. The expectation here is that his stock will rise over the next few months in advance of the draft.

Reese’s Pieces: Originally recruited as a tight end, Brian moved to offensive tackle after redshirting the 2014 season. Other than the opener in 2015, he started the remaining 37 games of his career and was chosen first team All-ACC this past season. 

Time and Training

#78 Brett Toth/Army (N)                    6056/303        H-10 1/8          A-33                WS-81 4/8
One of THE best stories of the 2018 RSB, Brett helped West Point go 18-8 over the last two seasons including consecutive wins over Navy. The Cadets ran the football 785 times, while only making 65 throws, so protecting the passer was probably his biggest adjustment in Mobile. Brett has an NFL body type and showed enough lateral agility to think that he can become a player in the future when his military obligations end.

Reese’s Pieces: Brett has a two-year commitment ahead of him, however, with 60 days of leave available after graduation, he could participate in some of his team’s workouts and practices and stay connected to the club if he were deployed at a nearby base.

#71 Alex Cappa/Humboldt State (S)  6055/299        H-9 1/8            A-33 1/8          WS-77 6/8
As HSU’s first representative to play in the RSB, Alex held his own against better competition and proved to be an interesting developmental type prospect at the next level. While he got exposed on certain reps, overall, he flashed enough quickness, agility, balance and strength to become a player with the proper investment of coaching and practice.

Reese’s Pieces: Alex redshirted in 2013 and was then named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Offensive Lineman of the Year four consecutive times during his career.

#72 Brandon Parker/NC A&T (S)        6072/303        H-9 5/8            A-35 3/8          WS-85 2/8
Brandon has the growth potential, arm length and overall athleticism for an NFL team to try and maximize over the next few seasons. If he will commit to the weight room and filling out his frame, Brandon can be 320lbs in no time, and with better strength, should be able to assume a starting position for a team that manages him wisely. After some initial struggles, he improved during the week and has vast potential in his body.

Reese’s Pieces: A four-year starter for the Aggies, he helped lead NC A&T to an undefeated season for the first time in 74 years along with the MEAC title, HBCU national championship and a Celebration Bowl victory over Grambling.
